LEADERSHIP TEAM

DEAN BRYANT

President, Renewable Energy Division

With more than 37 years of development and design/build construction experience, Dean founded the Renewable Energy Division of Berry. Prior to joining the Berry team, Dean spent 5 years as the Director of Construction for Signal Energy Constructors and managed the company’s EPC contracts, construction division and project management personnel for the execution over 2,000 MW of infrastructure, solar and wind power plants in multiple states with single project sites spanning upwards of 300 MW. A 1987 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Science, his career began with top ENR firm Bencor Corporation of Chattanooga, TN, where he managed numerous office, shopping center, grocery, retail and industrial projects. Dean has served as an officer for several other large general contractors and has managed diverse teams completing renewable energy, commercial, industrial and institutional projects across the country.

TYLER PHIPPS

DIRECTOR OF PRECONSTRUCTION, RENEWABLE ENERGY DIVISION

With more than 14 years of design/build construction experience, Tyler joined the Renewable Energy Division of Berry in 2019. While with the Berry Renewables team, Tyler has held both preconstruction and project management roles. He has overseen EPC negotiations, estimating and management of a multitude of solar and energy storage power plants ranging in size from 1.5 MW to over 67 MW, before taking the director position over all preconstruction activities in 2023. Prior to joining Berry, Tyler spent 5 years with Signal Energy Constructors and managed the preconstruction team for both solar and wind projects. A 2010 graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Construction, his career began in residential and commercial construction before moving to Signal Energy, where he worked on project portfolios ranging in size from 15 MW to 2,000 MW. Tyler has extensive solar, wind and interconnection design experience and has managed all aspects of projects using the latest technologies, including string and central inverters, fixed racking, tracker systems, multiple module types, integrated energy storage, numerous turbine systems, transmission and substations.

DEREK MCELVEEN

DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION, RENEWABLE ENERGY DIVISION

With more than 12 years of design/build construction experience, Derek joined the Renewable Energy Division of Berry in 2020. While with the Berry Renewables team, Derek has managed the design and construction of over 20 solar and energy storage projects ranging in size from 1.5 MW to over 67 MW, before taking the director position over all construction operations in 2023. Prior to joining Berry, Derek spent 6 years with B.L. Harbert International and 2 years with Signal Energy Constructors and managed various projects ranging in value to over $200 million. A 2013 graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, his career began with top ENR firm B.L. Harbert International of Birmingham, AL, where he managed numerous heavy industrial projects, water treatment plants, and manufacturing facilities. Derek’s renewable energy construction management experience includes solar, wind, energy storage and interconnection projects.

TURNKEY EPC SERVICES

The Renewable Energy Division of Berry has the ability to self-perform major aspects of your renewable energy projects and our contracts typically include full turnkey services including the following:

  • Engineering, design and power plant optimization. 
  • Procurement of power plant equipment.
  • Construction of all civil infrastructure and electrical system (including low, medium and high voltage systems and communications).
  • Installation of racking foundations and mechanical assembly of single-axis trackers, fixed-tilt and ballasted racking technologies. 
  • Installation of PV modules.    
  • Commissioning and testing.
  • Interconnection with utility.

We design and build our renewable energy projects as if we would be the long-term asset owner. Our extensive experience allows our team to understand the project and project owner’s needs, both operational and financial, which enables us to provide innovative solutions that will craft the right balance of design efficiency, construction cost, project safety, quality and schedule economy.
